Open Rooms Venice - Inhabiting the void
Satellite Event of the Festival of the New European Bauhaus
14 June 2026
OSA Osservatorio Sant'Anna, Venice
Organised by Venice Urban Lab
“Open Rooms Venice – Inhabiting the Void” is a day dedicated to community engagement that explores how unused spaces can be temporarily reactivated as shared and collective resources. The project explores the void not as an absence, but as social, spatial, and cultural potential.
The event will take place at the Sant’Anna Complex (Fondamenta Sant’Anna 503, 30122, Venice), a former military infirmary temporarily granted to the Sant’Anna Observatory by the State Property Agency—a site that is itself an example of temporary reuse and urban regeneration.
Through a collaboration with the IUAV University of Venice, students have the opportunity to apply and contribute to the development, implementation, and promotion of a real public event in Venice, interacting directly with local communities and stakeholders.
Participation requires a total commitment of 50 hours and entitles participants to 2 academic credits recognized by the IUAV University of Venice.
Knowledge of the Italian language is an advantage, given the local nature of the event and the direct contact with the Venetian community. However, it is not a requirement: we are a multicultural team and welcome applications from those with limited or no knowledge of Italian who have an excellent level of English.
