Great participation on Monday 14 November at the first debate organized byVenice Urban Labunder the initiative "Dialogues for the city"on unused or underutilized spaces and onUrban regeneration. Focus in particular on the area ofmaritimeand ofit will make a fuss.
The meeting, which was attended by many professionals, citizens, young people and students, took place in the LaboratoryUniv, a productive space of excellence in the field of restoration that opens up to the city to host debates and moments of civic meeting as on this occasion.
Representatives were present and spoke, as well as of the sameUniv, of the Acecitations that supported and co-organized the initiative, venice Calls,Sumus CommunityAndRialto Project.
After an overview of important but unrealized projects in the port area from 1985 to today, I concluded the introduction with avisionwhich, with a collage of projects from the Competition, thesis of Iuav design laboratories, prefigures the port as a large green lung for the city with facilities for sport, leisure, living and working.
A provocation or a possible reality? A concrete utopia?
The "Seventh District" already hypothesized in a similar debate duringTheSea Festival in 2008?
A lively debate ensued with various contributions: the creation of a “cattractive outlet” composed of theaters and cinemas; a pole of local handicraft production; the creation of a public squero, the creation of an energy community, an acceleration center for the energy transition of Venice focused on boating.
Finally, there was talk of new regulations that allow the temporary use of unused or underused spaces with innovative operating methods to be tested.
The debate is very current in view of a tender promoted by the Port Authority which should come out at the beginning of 2023.
For this we will continue with a joint action of the associations already engaged and other interested associations forinform and involve citizens in the redesign of this important portion of the city!

URSULA VON DER LEYEN WITH THE NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS IN VENICE!
The President of the European Commission presented yesterday the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative in a collateral event of the Architecture Biennale 2023 in the Aula Magna of the Università Iuav di Venezia. President recalled that the NEB is a great cultural movement in support of the European Green Deal to achieve the European climate goals and to create a fairer #society in #balance with #nature. In her speech, she emphasised that this cultural movement can only be made by #people, by all of us, by the many local #initiatives that can change things and activate small but significant transformations that, linked together, take on a global weight. We are honoured to be mentioned as actors of this transformation in the Venetian community!

BUSINESS FOR LUNCH: WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE URBANIZATION!
Cities are highly complex places where human activities are mostly concentrated. Well-planned cities can ensure economic prosperity, mitigate environmental degradation, reduce social inequalities and build stronger institutions.
A planned urbanization process improves the quality of life and generates immense environmental value. Conversely, if unplanned, urbanization poses a threat to environmental sustainability: uncontrolled expansion, irreversible land use changes, biodiversity loss, resource-intensive consumption patterns and high levels of pollution.
Among other interventions,Sergio Pascolo, president of Venice Urban Lab, talked about urban regeneration, del @neweuropeanbauhaus New European Bauhaus and how to make cities more livable.

Marittima, Scomenzera, Dorsoduro West
Among the many reports of empty, unused or underused buildings and spaces that are coming to us via la #callforspaces launched in June, although all of them are important, the largest ones are undoubtedly the “Marittima” area and the adjacent area along the Scomenzera canal, today both areas “fenced off” as port.
