Call For Spaces

The CALL FOR SPACES, IDEAS, PLACES, BUILDINGS is an initiative launched to involve the citizens of Venice in a participatory process aimed at mapping abandoned or unused spaces, buildings, and places in the lagoon city and the mainland. This project, carried out exclusively online, represented a collective call to identify and enhance hidden or neglected urban resources, promoting a shared vision for the future of the city.

The main goal is to identify spaces with strong regeneration potential, in order to transform them into resources for the community. Citizens are invited to report any area in need of attention and care, from forgotten courtyards to large abandoned buildings. These spaces represent an essential part of Venice’s urban heritage, which, with targeted interventions, can be repurposed for new uses related to housing, work, and social activities.

The reports were collected and incorporated into an interactive map, a key tool to make these opportunities visible and to facilitate the subsequent design work. This map allowed citizens, professionals, and students to immediately see where the abandoned areas are located, what their characteristics are, and what potential they may offer to the community.

The CALL FOR SPACES is not concluded and represents only the beginning of a regeneration process. The interactive map continues to be available to receive new reports and enrich itself with new contributions, stimulating a continuous and proactive dialogue between citizens and the city.
